Fall Lawn Care Checklist for Oklahoma Homeowners

July 2026

Fall is the most important season for your lawn in Oklahoma. The work you do between September and November sets the foundation for a thick, healthy, weed-free lawn the following spring and summer.

First, schedule core aeration and overseeding in early fall. Aeration relieves compaction in our clay soil and gives new seed direct contact with the earth. We recommend a high-quality fescue or Bermuda blend depending on your sun and shade conditions.

Second, apply a fall fertilizer. This feeds the roots as they store energy for winter, which is when the real growth happens underground. A slow-release nitrogen formula is ideal for our region.

Finally, keep mowing at your normal height until growth stops, and do a thorough leaf clean-up. A mat of wet leaves left on the grass will smother and kill it. Need help with your fall lawn prep? We handle the full program — give us a call at 918-578-4463.
